Sunday Matinee: Eros and the Eschaton

Seekers of the Shew Stone,

Hope all’s well in your own little Hattervilles on this sublime Sunday.  Watching the American political process in action always remindS me that while I’ve often seen a cat without a grin, only in the home of the 64 oz soda will I see a grin without a cat.  At least one thing was clarified further last week – contraction of the social programs relied upon by the most vulnerable shall continue, and the WASP power structure shall also continue to fund its military industrial complex of conformity by cannon. Always open to ideas of how to convince Americans that a robust public education system and Medicare for all are better investments than winged weapons of death btw.

Whatever happened to doing unto the least of my brethren? Lol I guess the historical record of the Imperialist Reformation is better reconciled with In Hoc Signo Vinces.

I know that communication is the sine qua non of society, but my mistrust of words has seemingly been becoming more pronounced in recent weeks.  Somehow partners, a preference for prolonged periods of the pre-planning phase of prose production has been posited as positive.  But, since such personal peccadilloes plague not plenty, here’s master wordsmith McKenna waxin poetic as a form of compensatory damages.  I guess it’s my homage to irony.  Grab a pineapple express pizza and enjoy Terence’s assault on the fragmented religion of science.

One love,

HJ

P.S. My fellow seekers of the a priori reality will definitely dig this one.

Sunday Matinee: The Cosmic Game with Stanislav Grof

Once upon a time, I, Zhuangzi, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, for all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Zhuangzi. Soon I awoke, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.

Dr. Grof gives a wonderful lecture on the exploration of expanded states of awareness and the impact to the self. I thoroughly enjoyed this chat and hope you folks find it equally stimulating.

One love,

HJ

P.S.  I often wonder about the legitimacy of a state apparatus that infantilizes “free” adults and aims to prevent the exploration of alternative states of consciousness. The Schedule 1 classification is readily applied to all psychoactive compounds that allow for a departure from the problem solver mindset, both naturally occurring and synthetic. This is not open scientific discourse in a free society.  This is systemic control.  Sometimes I feel the goal may be to prevent the worker bee from achieving intimate cognition of the wretched character underpinning aspirational consumerism while their fellow men sleep on the street.  Hey, someone has to buy $3000 shoes made from slaughtered alligators.  Subject for another day however amigos.

Sunday Matinee: The Men of the Fifth World

Hujambo Midgardians!

Resistance is Futile – Borg maxim

I think it was Kant who wrote about the futility of one trying to perceive that which exists without use of his or her perceptive apparatus. If it comes from a doyen of philosophy like Mr. Kant, then I definitely feel okay about my little spiel. Although he wasn’t specifically referring to cultural biases, it follows that we cannot evaluate any information presented outside the perceptual framework with which we understand the world.  Our impressions, both sensory and mental, are often colored by a lot more than we may initially concede – conditioning, fears, cultural norms, dietary prejudices, etc. Thus, when viewing these programs about indigenous cultures, it’s important not to apply our value judgments to create hierarchical comparisons when evaluating any custom.

I’ll leave you with this compadres.  Although the Borg are right and it’s impossible to remain untainted from the march of empire, there are certain precepts that only naiveté would prevent us from incorporating within the fabric of our own cultural narrative. Concepts like societal organization around mutual-aid and harmony with the ecosystems that sustain us are quite meritorious. Who knows, maybe the way to subvert the machine is to introduce the reality tunnels of these tribal cultures as sub-routines within the system? I’ll leave the spiritual considerations for an individual assessment. Enjoy!

Sunday Matinee: Culture & Ideology Are Not Your Friends w/ Terence McKenna

Hou arre ye Highlanders?!

It’s been a while and I hope that all’s well as you navigate the yellow brick road. I know that at times this blog must seem like an abrupt and discontinuous juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated subjects, but trust me folks, there’s a method to the madness. While an alpha-numeric appellation doesn’t lend itself well to legitimacy, the rigidity of culturally imposed external directives is rather prone to stereotypes and anonymity is necessary to circumvent this limitation. Culture after all is naught but a closed system of values.

I don’t consider these shares to be a mere gallimaufry as the overarching objective is to shatter the societal and ideological “norms” that imprison our minds. I often wonder whether men can esteem virtue above all else and this inquiry is continuously thwarted by the wall of cultural impositions. One cannot aspire to virtue or truth when judging the outside world based on an imposed value system of abstractions.  Justice, intelligence, success, etc., cannot be defined and are not measurable by a valid objective standard, unless of course we gain definitive insight into the realm of the archetypes.

Consequently, any opinions we may hold on these topics are likely the result of some coordinate we use to create a frame of reference. While we can achieve somewhat of a societal consensus, rarely are the coordinates of definition not established by a control mechanism. Consider the following illustration – modern American ideological convention considers the disproportionate incarceration of African American males for non-violent offenses in a for-profit prison industrial complex to be justice in action and in reality this is un-just, ludicrous and offensive. But more on this later.

As the demands of everyday living make it somewhat difficult to conduct meaningful self-analysis, we often fail to realize that the bricks which comprise our reality tunnel have been laid by someone else, often times by institutions with agendas that cannot be reconciled with our own interests. This is an enjoyable talk given by Terence the Wise and I hope you find it a tad beneficial in escaping the prison of external directives. Bodies of knowledge claiming to offer any ultimate truth or finality should be relegated to the compost heap of history as they’re sure to be self-limiting, inadequate, and wrong.

The goal has always been an altruistic one amigos. Any purported freedom one may attain is meaningless if not shared with all. Liberate yourself from all ideological impositions not self-validated and to the critics who seek to oppose this process, “Honi soit qui mal y pense!”

Skip ahead to the 3:50 mark if you wish to avoid the introductory remarks.

One love,

HJ

P.S. This is only a recommendation but I would hope that you criticize everything that McKenna says.
