Sunday Matinee: Kundalini – Reflections of the Inner Light

One’s-Self I sing, a simple separate person,

Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-Masse.

Of physiology from top to toe I sing,

Not physiognomy alone nor brain alone is worthy for the Muse, I say the Form complete is worthier far,

The Female equally with the Male I sing.

Of Life immense in passion, pulse, and power,

Cheerful, for freest action form’d under the laws divine,

The Modern Man I sing.

—Walt Whitman

Various schools of ancient philosophy and insight were centered around unlocking the vast mysteries residing within the heavenly temple of the human body. Through gaining an understanding of himself, man sought to interpenetrate the mysteries underlying the music of the spheres. Over the centuries, Eastern philosophies have probed these mysteries at great depth and seem to share a common recognition of a super sensory energy system that resides within the human body.  The beauty of modernity however, lies in our ability to filter these ancient philosophies through the lens of inquiry to pierce through the mendacity that inevitably accrues with the passage of time.

I think this is a well done presentation introducing the pre-Vedic concept of Kundalini to the Western mind.  Kundalini represents the all-powerful cosmic creative energy that unifies both the physical and spiritual aspects of our existence and can be described as a mystical experience of self-realization.  I’m not in a position to speak with authority on this subject amigos, but instead share this to open further avenues of exploration for the curious among you. Enjoy!

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Luke 17:21

Sunday Matinee: The Taoist Way with Alan Watts

Butchers, Bakers, Candlestick Makers, and my old rogues,

I have learned much in my life from the teachings of Alan Watts. Here’s a wonderful lecture he did on the Taoist way for your enjoyment today. The philosophy of the Tao is a fundamental aspect of my own reality tunnel and it lends itself well to an even-keeled temperament. This does not mean that the Universe can’t pitch a curve ball every now and again that knocks your freakin’ socks off.  ;)

But I digress. Is Taoism truth you ask? How about some good ole’ Gibran wisdom -The bird of truth does indeed unfurl its wings in Taoist philosophy but it still does not take flight. It has served me as a masterful methodology to approaching life however and also, to processing data received from self-observation.

A life of higher egoic reflectivity eventually reorients the soul to its Divine origins. Walking this path of relentless self observation also leads to a life of teaching by example versus exposition of precept. The little dilemma that arises however is that only by suffering through exposition of precept does one develop the skillset necessary to perform relentless self observation. Lol  Go figure!

Would you expect any less in a universe where the increasing complexity of life dances with the 2nd law of thermodynamics? But enough rambling from me, I’ll let the venerable Mr. Watts do the exposition today. Enjoy amigos!

One love,

HJ

P.S. 2nd Law of Thermodynamics just states that the entropy of any system approaches positive infinity or disorder is always increasing. Seems to be contrary to the move towards more organization that drives evolution.

Temple of the Goddess

Hujambo Jedi!

Been enjoying a wonderful reprieve from the web lately so no fulminations this fine Friday friends. Just felt like sharing something fabulous with you folks. With the ubiquitous chaotic frenzy confronting the humans, I thought an infusion of beauty may create some positive vibes and ripple out. Chaos theory is on my side it seems.  Maybe, just maybe, this butterfly can create a hurricane of positivity.  Check out these vibes:

Can you hear the priest?
He’s tryin’ to keep his goddess pleased
Love’s shining eternally
Love will make you feel so free

Come, come it’s okay
For satisfaction you must pray
The flame of passion ain’t no bluff
It’s shinning in the temple of love

Come to the temple of love
And together we’ll pray
To the heaven’s above

Come to the temple of love

She sure is beautiful compadres.

Ye stewards, seek the sublime that lies beyond everyday cognition. The mind is the great slayer of the real as the wise ones say.

If I tried to tell you that stars lie hidden in your soul would you believe me?  Or would I get something like, “H3nry you should really turn off the Northern Lights before you write.”  Okay, you don’t have to believe anything, but when you do realize the inner light amigos, remember I tried to give you a heads up.

Nothing will ever look the same once you listen to the whispers of the soul.  Discard the desire for details of the declination from the Ineffable to the flesh cage and learn to dance.  Schrödingers’ equations and Sabbath observation are just alternate mappings of the same reality and these are not necessarily mutually exclusive.  Or alternatively, you could say that the universe has a design that includes physicists. Lol

Every now and again the Mother Goddess smiles and presents you with a glimpse of something so incredibly beautiful, the soul stirs. It could be a dance, or a dancer, a butterfly in flight, a tiger tiger burning bright, or even heaven in a wild flower.  It’s at these moments of exquisiteness that one’s gaze becomes naught fixed elsewhere.  The first premise driving the transcendental machine becomes vaguely discernible since you’re in the presence of that which is Good, Beautiful, and True. The Dancer dances and you simply sit with bated breath in bewilderment. The hue of reality changes so to speak.

Do you really think that this is worth destroying so men who have can accumulate more? A wise owl would probably disagree with this model.  Seek beauty, goodness and truth amigos and the temple of love opens its doors to you. #justsayin

Sunday Matinee: Reflections on Oneness with Peter Russell

Ropes over the abyss,

I thought I’d give my dawgz a real mad izm sparker today.  I think it’s time for an update of our operational definitions. The overman’s concept of infinite is no longer locked in a dialectic with an antithetical rebel for the soul of mankind. Coincidencia oppositorum – it’s time to reconcile the duality amigos. I shared a lecture of Russell’s some time back. If your itchin to spend one of the nine, click here. You know what they say about curiosity folks.  But hey, rockin the old reality tunnel is never a bad thing. Enjoy!

It is a secret which every intellectual man quickly learns, that, beyond the energy of his possessed and conscious intellect, he is capable of a new energy (as of an intellect doubled on itself), by abandonment to the nature of things; that, beside his privacy of power as an individual man, there is a great public power, on which he can draw, by unlocking, at all risks, his human doors, and suffering the ethereal tides to roll and circulate through him: then is he caught up into the life of the Universe, his speech is thunder, his thought is law, and his words are universally intelligible as the plants and animals.

Secular Divinity of Sound

Ye who have seen beyond the walls of the cave,

A captivating piece of music recently crossed my path and resonated on a level that eluded linguistic trappings.  Just had to share this soothing instrumental with my homeys.  In homage to Holmes, I also did some reconnaissance and the following translation turned up. Turns out that this is actually a devotional piece written in the 15th Century by Narsinh Mehta.  The word “Vaishnav” is translated as a devotee of Vishnu.  For those who may be uncomfortable with assigning intelligence to the infinite and eternal energy from which all things proceed, replace “Vaishnav” with “True Humanist” and voila, any perturbations experienced in the mind of a 3D dweller is rather easily resolved. I hope you enjoy the piece.

Vaishnav Jan

One who is a Vaishnav (or True Humanist)

Knows the pain of others

Does good to others

Without letting pride enter his mind.

A Vaishnav (True Humanist), Tolerates and praises the entire world.

Does not speak ill of others

Keeps his promises, actions and thoughts pure

Your mother is blessed indeed.

A Vaishnav (True Humanist) sees everything equally, rejects greed and avarice

Respects women as he respects his own mother

Though his tongue may tire he will utter no untruth

Never touches the property of others.

A Vaishnav (True Humanist) does not succumb to worldly attachments

He has renounced lust of all types and anger

The poet Narsi will like to see such a person by whose virtue,

The entire family gets salvation.

Sunday Matinee: The Cosmic Game with Stanislav Grof

Once upon a time, I, Zhuangzi, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, for all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Zhuangzi. Soon I awoke, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.

Dr. Grof gives a wonderful lecture on the exploration of expanded states of awareness and the impact to the self. I thoroughly enjoyed this chat and hope you folks find it equally stimulating.

One love,

HJ

P.S.  I often wonder about the legitimacy of a state apparatus that infantilizes “free” adults and aims to prevent the exploration of alternative states of consciousness. The Schedule 1 classification is readily applied to all psychoactive compounds that allow for a departure from the problem solver mindset, both naturally occurring and synthetic. This is not open scientific discourse in a free society.  This is systemic control.  Sometimes I feel the goal may be to prevent the worker bee from achieving intimate cognition of the wretched character underpinning aspirational consumerism while their fellow men sleep on the street.  Hey, someone has to buy $3000 shoes made from slaughtered alligators.  Subject for another day however amigos.

Share the Wealth: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

640px-Statua_Marco_Aurelio_Musei_Capitolini_Fronte2

Avete Alchemists!

Usually I subject you folks to whatever word cage I’m exploring at the moment, so if ever you see a big “DUH!” posted on hgd, you know I’ve decided to read Decision Points by Bush the Lesser (insert laughing emoticon here).  Nah man, can neither stomach the masterful gloss on imperial aggression nor could I subject you folks to propaganda.  Truth be told amigos, I avoid advocacy of any position that doesn’t resonate with the indweller, which ultimately has to be reconciled with the Coincidence Control Office on a daily basis. While it does take some work, eventually one learns to refute the allure of the Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, soon to be King of Scotland spiel.  Trading my soul for the illusory rewards of maya will leave me bankrupt.  And you can take that to the bank.

I wanted to share a real reward with you today however.  Same drill as the other shares in this series – free and short.

While popularized by Dr, King, Transcendentalist Theodore Parker originally wrote about the moral arc of the universe bending towards justice.   I like to think that this book can aid in bending the spiritual arc of a man towards virtue.  And at the end of the day partners, this is the objective undertaken by all Jedi.   I didn’t open this book until manhood and certainly would have benefited much from the ideas herein at the ages where impetuosity and rashness reign.  The chaotic waves of infinite time lie on either side of the present, and nowhere is a man more aware of this than when he cannot retire into his own soul.  The wisdom contained in this little gem can certainly help to still those turbulent waters of the past and future that perturb the present.

Meditations has the ability to transform one’s outlook on the world.  Twelve segments, twelve days.  Are you up for it? I think a reintroduction and popularizing of philosophical concepts in the instruction of the young would be profoundly beneficial to society at large.  And I don’t mean solely for children of privilege.  Can you imagine the potential of a society where a group of 12 year old kids openly discuss their place in the universal order?  Maybe a pipe dream, but maybe not. If you do decide to read this book, consider using the themes as the subjects of discussion with your kids versus subjecting yourself to the normalizing of neuroticism otherwise known as television.  It’s the duty of all people to inquire into the fundamental fabric of their lives.  I’m aiming for the stars here compadres and hoping for some societal level conditioning.

I’ll leave you with a few nuggets to ignite your interest:

“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.”

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”

“The soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thoughts.”

“Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.”

“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”

“Remember that man lives only in the present, in this fleeting instant; all the rest of his life is either past and gone, or not yet revealed.  Short, therefore, is man’s life, and narrow is the corner of the earth wherein he dwells.”

“Men seek retreats for themselves, houses in the country, sea-shores, and mountains; and thou too art wont to desire such things very much. But this is altogether a mark of the most common sort of men, for it is in thy power whenever thou shalt choose to retire into thyself. For nowhere either with more quiet or more freedom from trouble does a man retire than into his own soul.”

Take heed not to be transformed into a Caesar, not to be dipped in the purple dye, for it does happen. Keep yourself therefore, simple, good, pure, grave, unaffected, the friend of justice, religious, kind, affectionate, strong for your proper work. Wrestle to be the man philosophy wished to make you. Reverence the gods, save men. Life is brief; there is but one harvest of earthly existence, a holy disposition and neighborly acts.
