Sunday Matinee: The Tao of Physics

“Science does not need mysticism and mysticism does not need science but man needs both.”- Fritjof Capra

Greetings Argonauts,

Lemme first say that I am sorry about the delay but I’m hoping for a “better late than never” absolution today. I also offer my apologies for not keeping up with your blogs regularly, but I’ve been on info detox again. I wish I could really convey the refreshing feeling experienced mentally when you enjoy the silence from time to time. But to make amends however, you’ll get another double feature today.

When you awaken to the infinite and eternal essence from which all things proceed you eventually develop the ability to contextualize rationality. This is not an easy process and poses unique challenges as upending the particular world view by which you’ve defined your very existence causes an existential crises of sorts.  It can no longer be as you’ve thought because your experience now dictates otherwise.  While exploring various avenues of science and spirituality in search of clarity, I happened across Fritjof Capra and the Tao of Physics a little while back. Capras’ ideas were rather helpful in allowing for a new perspective to blossom.

This perspective allows one to wield rationality as the magnificent tool that it is but with an awareness that it’s only a tool. Rational thinking is a great vehicle to facilitate discrimination and comprehension of the material world. But there exists a superior knowing that goes beyond thinking. An essence that eludes empirical validation. And no words or equations can codify the awareness of this essence. I think Gibran said something like- the bird of Truth may unfurl its wings in a cage of words but will never fly. Or as masterfully captured in the Tao, “The Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao.” For ye of a more skeptical orientation that would argue that rational analysis is the pinnacle of understanding, I offer this:- The rational construct of self places self-preservation as the highest aspiration of man. Pose that question to a lover or mother and see if that assertion remains valid. Love cannot be comprehended rationally brethren. And I assume that none would argue against the reality of the experience of love.

Fritjof Capra is a theoretical physicist who wrote the Tao of Physics in 1975, exploring the connection between quantum physics and Eastern mysticism and philosophy. This video does a great job of expressing Capras’ ideas and I hope it’s beneficial to those who are struggling with a similar stage of internal evolution. When you expand the concept of the self, you can move towards an intuitive understanding of the subject-object flaw in perception. The Big Bang is a process and not an event amigos, and you are part of that process. I hope this whets your appetite for more as you can get a used copy of Capra’s book for under 10 bucks at Amazon. (Unfortunately I couldn’t include it as part of the Share the Wealth series as it’s not in the public domain.)

The Tao of Physics

**Bonus Feature – DeVine**

While some may be fortunate to experience an organic shift in conscious evolution, others may not have had this awareness. Here’s a little something for those who might desire some further information and guidance with “awakening” within their own lives. :)

One love,

P.S. I would love to hear any thoughts on the connection that underpins these vids folks. So please don’t hesitate to chime in.

Thanks! I’m going to watch these!

  2. akosmopolite says:

I had the chance to watch both videos. I’m so happy you shared a video about Ayahuasca :) this has interested me for some time and I think more people should know about this beautiful ceremony.

  3. And when linear rationality threatens to drive one completely over edge there’s always NON-linear perception just loitering in the gangway waiting for the right mind door to open in order to waltz inside and totally destroy the old apple cart. Have to be careful with this vantage point as it can lead to unexpected circumstances of all sorts.
Yes, it is good to detox from the constant stream of input.
    Cheers H3nry. :)
The tao greets and meets even as it departs and adieus.

    • H3nry J3kyll says:

Did I ever mention that it’s enjoyable to read your comments. So methinks it’s safe to say that thinking and feeling must then exist in harmonious accord.

      Cheers my friend :)

Greeting and departure do define each other after all.

  4. I especially liked this one – the explanation of what the Newtonian model reducing everything to balls and clockwork is totally inadequate to explain sub-atomic physics. I also really like his explanation of the way Newtonian physics has contaminated our language and even our predominant ideology of control and exploitation.

    • H3nry J3kyll says:

I am always thrilled when these vids find favor Dr B. I think one of the reasons for the inter-disciplinary contamination is that much of our language and indeed society as a whole, has evolved in tandem with the proliferation of technology in the Industrial Age, the latter being dependent on the Newtonian schema. But that’s the beauty of the paradigm shift currently underway, the limitations of the model have become apparent and the new thinking dissolves the line of decoherence between the quantum and macro worlds.

I think the wonder of true, clean energy based on sympathetic wave physics versus the hyper-masculine, explosion based method used now, is right around the corner. Can you imagine a world with free energy, engines that operate above 50% efficiency, and no pollution? You can bet Shell and BP will employ the necessary measures to stall that process.

  5. ptero9 says:

    Thanks H3nry!

I so appreciate the thought that silence can be a cleansing practice from time to time. Thanks for the Capra too!

    • H3nry J3kyll says:

You’re welcome and I’m glad you enjoyed it Debra. And you’re so right on silence as a cleansing. With the continuous data overload, it’s always a good idea to discard the nonessential junk.

  6. carolahand says:

The Capra video was fascinating — it helped me understand the challenges inherent in living between two cultures — one that sees the world as “a finely woven net of interconnections,” and one that is based on a disconnected mechanistic perspective. Thank you for sharing this, H3nry!

    • H3nry J3kyll says:

You’re quite welcome Carol. I think the wisdom from one is necessary to halt the insanity of the other. The psyche of power has to evolve if this human experiment is to thrive. Global agriculture, resource allocation, wealth distribution, etc. all these models are antiquated and destructive. And I almost forgot war. Nothing says disconnected like the bloodlust of the West.

I LOVE the image you chose :P lol

  8. Loraloozi says:

May I ask you a question: what do you mean by an “organic” shift in conscious evolution?

    • H3nry J3kyll says:

Sure, I’m glad that you did. Some people have awakened to unity consciousness without the use of entheogens or adopting any particular spiritual practice or discipline. Others however adopt meditative practice, yoga, entheogens or hermetic lifestyles to cleanse the dross and dissolve the illusory bonds of a materialist existence.
While once a pretty small number of isolated people, the internet has really facilitated communication between the growing number of “awake” people. Many have reported their experience to be an organic process where a spiritual yearning suddenly developed during the everyday course of life.
Feel free to comment about anything anytime. And if you find something requiring correction, or with which you disagree, please compel me to defend my position. It’s great to connect with you.

      • Loraloozi says:

Thanks for the reply. I think it’s difficult to draw a line. And not everyone can fit into this single spectrum.
