Sorting the chaos

lorenz

Greetings Heralds of the Lightning,

I hope the Downpressor Man hasn’t diminished your vitality of Spirit too much since we last spoke.  As you’ve probably figured by now, every few weeks I use this blog as a forum where I can express my indignation at the ubiquitous injustice that accompanies the march of McWorld.  Dunno what I hope to achieve, but I consider it sanity preservation therapy more than anything else. As I’ve come to realize however, concepts are more rarefied in abstract and despite the real world significance, notions like drones using drones to kill people or the cell block as a 21st Century version of the auction block, are about as meaningful as considerations of wave/ particle duality to many engaged in the frenetic pursuits of the “real” world. Time simply permits no more than a general awareness of events not directly impacting one’s life.

For you kindred spirits of the blogosphere, I thought I’d ignore the misdeeds of the miscreants today and try to sort some of the mush on my mind. Blogging after all is the last refuge of the introspective, and the verbose. The 5hr Energy horde descending on the world rarely engages in discourse that cannot be delineated in less than 120 characters. And it also seems that my lifetime has bore witness to the death of flowery, conflated writing, in favor of more direct, concise expression. Guess who didn’t get that memo?

Just as it’s impossible for one to really know what it’s like to be a bat, the subjectivity of experience makes it is impossible for one to know what it’s like to be another person. We must each progress from Zarathustra’s camel, to lion, to child, and this process of interior evolution is an individual one. The camel operates under the imposed burdens of another. Whether “Thou shalt not” or “This Bud’s for you,” the camel is governed by the dictates of exterior directives and must learn to govern its own mind. The lion is an assertive response to his burdened predecessor and seeks to impose his will upon the environment. Solipsism is his burden however, as the fulfillment of selfish objectives as the highest pursuit neglects the communal nature of human society. The final evolution of the child signifies a birth of an untainted consciousness viewing the world with novel wonder. The possibilities are bootstrapped with neither syntactic restraints nor limitation of thought.

Today it seems like the practice of rapidly shifting the focus of our conscious apparatus from one triviality to another has rendered us confused. This confusion thwarts the apprehension of the larger laws by which we are governed, which are the province of men to understand. To remedy this chaotic state and as an alternative to the barrage of digital media, I sometimes like to observe the interactions of the natural world. I think it helps to settle my mind and allows for inquiry. Whether spiders, birds, trees, or bees, I find the intelligence at work to be mind-boggling.  Ant-watching is often more rewarding to the Voice of the Silence than an equivalent time spent on stylized violence and catty housewives.

While observing ants engaged in the painstaking process of colony building, I often wonder whether they possess an awareness of the superior law to which they must yield. Namely my objective for the space they inhabit. They proceed in intersecting queues, stopping briefly to exchange information, in a rather similar fashion to humans proceeding along the busy streets of an urban hub. Their industrious nature is unsurpassed however, as leisurely pursuits are not an adaptation of the consciousness at work in the class insecta. The ants work diligently and possess no awareness of my planned avocado project until the soil is tilled and the underground fortress to which they have dedicated their time is laid to waste.

Unlike ants however, we can comprehend the larger scheme of which we are part. Yet we refuse to acknowledge a superior system until we are forced into reconciliation. It takes catastrophic oil spills and radiation leaks to spur our acknowledgement of the complex system of life of which we are only a thread. Why do humans just proceed along building our fortresses of ego until upended by consequence? I sometimes wonder whether this is a viral vestige. Viruses will multiply until the death of the host occurs, although that probably means their own demise.

Philosophers have argued that choice renders the human algorithm unsolvable. But is there choice? Is the human stage one of improv or are we executioners of scripted verse? I like to think that I possess a choice in the decisions I make, but ask yourself what do you really choose in your own lives? Choice may be debatable but I think that ample evidence exists to acknowledge the presence of a masterful pattern at work in the cosmos. Some say that any perceived scheme is merely the effect of pareidolia, namely the apprehension of a pattern where none exists. But I often wonder, how can one not perceive the pattern. The cycles of nature, the rotation of the planets, the omnipresence of Fibonacci spirals, a heavenly symphony of the spheres is on nightly display, all we need do is look. There are even patterns at work within the evolution of DNA.

The evolution of the human brain from less complex structures is a shift from less to more organization. Randomness implies that at each advance towards negative entropy, there exists an equal probability for reversal. This means that if something advances fortuitously, it is equally likely to be reversed at the next stage. Consider a sequential doubling series where 1 atom becomes 2, then 4, 8, 16, 32, 64… If this occurs with no regression, it means that the evolutionary trend of increasing complexity yielding a successful structure is not a random process. Chance expressly excludes this occurrence.

If this process were random, each adaptation would be vulnerable to collapse. The successful unification of processes denies the fortuitous adaptation argued by proponents of random mechanism.  Else you would not be sitting at a computer reading the musings of a bar-stool philosophizer. I think it’s therefore quite safe for us to relegate the idea of evolution as a random process to the same status as the 6000 year theory of the earth – an impossibility.

Now if we take the advice of our friend Mr. Holmes and eliminate the impossible, what’s left? Well that’s for you to come up with. That’s the beauty of the thing, you’re free to reject or accept anything. I think conformist thinking has constrained this human experiment for far too long.

One love,

HJ

Sunday Matinee: The War on Democracy

A discussion with a fellow blogger recently reminded me of the huge information gap that exists between the general American public and the rest of the hemisphere regarding US policy towards Latin America. (Just wanted to say thank you for the reminder. Here’s a link to Electrica in the Desert where Claire raises awareness on the often neglected narratives interwoven with the march of empire.)  In the award winning film The War on Democracy, journalist and documentary filmmaker John Pilger explores the relationship between the invisible hand that operates unchecked in Washington DC and the other countries in the hemisphere.

The following quote is taken from Pilger’s website:

“Using archive footage sourced by Michael Moore’s archivist Carl Deal, the film shows how serial US intervention, overt and covert, has toppled a series of legitimate governments in the Latin American region since the 1950s. The democratically elected Chilean government of Salvador Allende, for example, was ousted by a US backed coup in 1973 and replaced by the military dictatorship of General Pinochet. Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador have all been invaded by the United States.

John Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who took part in secret campaigns against democratic countries in the region. He investigates the School of the Americas in the US state of Georgia, where Pinochet’s torture squads were trained along with tyrants and death squad leaders in Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil and Argentina.”

Ockam’s razor is often described by the following analogy – If you’re on a farm and hear footsteps, think horses and not zebras. Obviously our consideration would be somewhat different if we were Masai tribesmen living on the African plain. But I digress. People often look to a veiled cabal of “illuminated” men to explain the atrocities perpetrated in the world today. In keeping with Mr. Ockam’s principle however, the adherents of Weishaupt’s doctrine are unnecessary to explain the wanton disregard for the value of non-Caucasoid lives in every corner of the globe.

In the 1970s Archbishop Oscar Romero pleaded with the self-proclaimed Christian, Jimmy Carter for a cessation of the aid provided to the military junta slaughtering the people of El Salvador. Carter refused. Romero would be assassinated while delivering mass shortly thereafter. There was no secret conspiracy necessary here. The practice of funding, training, and offering military aid to power hungry psychopaths that seek to topple any elected government aiming for a more egalitarian approach to resource allocation is not limited to El Salvador.

The notion that a conspiratorial cabal is unnecessary however does not in and of itself negate the presence of one. I once believed and defended the position that this is a nation of laws and not of men. Upon a closer examination of the historical record however, it became apparent that the rule of law is merely the public façade of rules promulgated by men who exist outside the confines of law. This is analogous to the exoteric/ esoteric dichotomy that exists within the sphere of religious doctrine.

I’ll leave you with the following to consider. Way back in the day when beepers exemplified upward social mobility and Rob and Fab laid all blame on the rain, I was taught that the Gulf of Tonkin attack provided the justification for a Congressional resolution allowing for military intervention in Vietnam. Recently declassified NSA documents have revealed that the Gulf of Tonkin incident was a fabrication. 60,000 healthy young Americans and millions of defenseless Vietnamese villagers dead over a false flag operation.

Just ask yourself, who has the power and authority to stage an attack on a US destroyer, deceive Congress and goad the American public into sacrificing their sons? Even if you weren’t alive during the Vietnam era, the script should sound familiar as it plays out time and time again. The colonization of Iraq was also based upon a lie, followed thereafter by a media blitz grounded in self-referential evidentiary support. I don’t think anyone can legitimately believe that the invasion of Iraq was the sole work of George W. Bush, Condoleezza Hemings  Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney. Slanting the global narrative in the approved light to justify unfettered butchery required more than the efforts of this motley crew.  Not a single war crime was ever levied against the architects of the illegal war however, while Julian Assange languishes at the Ecuadorean embassy in London for revealing the illegality. This is rule by law.

With Freemasons and Theosophists targeted as the source of all tyranny by the unsophisticated, the real conspirators operate in plain view wielding the force majeure of the state. No more than 20 AIPAC supporters strong armed the US taxpayer for $800 billion under the guise of aiding distressed homeowners, recorded no minutes of the manner of disbursement, and included a provision that the decisions of then Treasury Secretary Hank Paulsen cannot be challenged in ANY court.  The money could therefore be disbursed according to Paulsens’ whims, with no fear or retribution for failure to comply with the objectives expressed to gain Congressional passage of TARP.  And yet we still doubt a Zionist banking conspiracy. smh

Hope you enjoy the film.

One love,

HJ

P.S. There are two very poignant scenes in the movie where Pilger interviews both a CIA automaton and a member of the Chilean bourgeoisie. I would like you to pay attention to the disdain and contempt with which both individuals view the humble working class man. Honestly compadres, this level of hatred eludes me.

Share the Wealth: The Prophet by Khalil Gibran

rumi

Greetings Soul Rebels,

For the second installment of the series I seek to offer some insight into the human condition.  I like to describe this share as one of the rest stops on my continuing journey towards comprehending the Unity that transcends multiplicity. Truth is elegant and at just around 60 pages of some rather gracefully articulated poetic wisdom, I couldn’t do this series without including The Prophet.  The work is arranged in the form of a discourse between the beloved prophet Almustafa and the people of Orphalese just prior to his departure from the city.  I feel as though my thoughts on the work would only defeat the purpose of sharing, as truth must be individually apprehended. So travelers, instead of pontificating on Gibran’s illumination, I’ll provide two sections to help you decide if you’ll rest at this exit or journey further.

The Prophet on Joy and Sorrow:

THEN a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow.
And he answered:
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall

The Prophet on Self Knowledge:

AND a man said, Speak to us of Self-Knowledge.
And he answered, saying:
Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights.
But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart’s knowledge.
You would know in words that which you have always known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.

And it is well you should.
The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.

Say not, “I have found the truth,” but rather, “I have found a truth.”
Say not, “I have found the path of the soul.” Say rather, “I have met the soul walking upon my path.”
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.

Here’s a link to the text: The Prophet by Khalil Gibran

Imho amigos, securing a hard copy of this masterpiece isn’t such a terrible idea. As you’ll hopefully soon discover, this work cannot be digested in a single reading nor will it readily depart from your memory. The Prophet’s wisdom is timeless.

For the fans of Napoleon Hill out there, you may be interested to know that this was to be read as a part of the course- The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons.

Sunday Matinee: Solve et Coagula – The Great Work of Alchemy

Ignorance is like unto a closed and airless vessel, the soul, a bird shut up within. It warbles not, nor can it stir a feather, but the songster mute and torpid sits and of exhaustion dies. – Helena P. Blavatsky

Share the Wealth: The Kybalion by Three Initiates

200px-Thoth.svg“The possession of knowledge, unless accompanied by a manifestation and expression in action, is like the hoarding of precious metals–a vain and foolish thing.”

For some time now I’ve had intentions of starting a series to share some brief books in the public domain that have been impactful in my life, with emphasis on the brief. Hey, with the demands already placed upon our lives, who has time for a treatise these days?  Free and short, can’t go wrong with that combo. What I’m hoping for is that these little nuggets would serve another wayfarer progressing along the less traveled path towards comprehension. Plus, I like to imagine a world where we all aspire to son of Jor-El consciousness. The internet has made it possible for seekers on all continents to share and facilitate the learning of their fellow Argonauts.

When the defining narrative that a man constructs about his life is erased while he’s relegated to the status of casual observer, he is often left grasping for straws. For the first time however, he becomes privileged to remove the mask of Maya that has long clouded his vision.  What he glimpses next transcends all, as for the first time, he has learned how to observe himself. Several years ago a little book found me at a time in my life when knowledge of the contents was necessary.  I write this to return the favor and share the wealth to aid anyone who may be experiencing a similar stage of conscious evolution.

This is not everyone’s cup of tea so to speak, as many would probably declare modern societal thought with notions of probability and string theory, to have progressed beyond these considerations. For the adherents of the Heart Doctrine however, I urge you to ponder the promulgations made by the authors. For those who have embarked upon the quest for cognition of the Arcane, travel well my friends.  Seek and ye shall find as the old saying goes, and use the treasures unearthed to advance the condition of all souls towards “The Good.” The redemption of Spirit from matter is difficult enough without the assault upon one’s consciousness by a ubiquitous glorification of violence and a culture that extols the virtues of degrading the feminine, wealth worship and the commodifying of integrity. Lo, I have heard that Truth is androgynous, incorruptible and priceless.

The initial share is The Kybalion by Three Initiates and I’ll include a link at the end. Though the authorship of the text is often disputed, the ideas originate from a much earlier corpus of knowledge thus rendering this issue inconsequential. The wisdom is attributed to the venerable Egyptian sage Djeheuty or Thoth, or as known by the Greeks, Hermes Trismegistus. For the skeptics and debunkers who would seek to assail any teaching that eludes empirical validation, until the collapse of Newtonian mechanics at the subatomic level and the source of zero point energy are irrefutably solved, the principles by which ancient cultures understood the mechanics of the Grand Pattern of Universal Procedure are still worthy of consideration.

For those familiar with alchemy, Freemasonic scholar Manly P. Hall taught that the etymology of the word “al-Khemy” can be traced back to the land of Egypt.  It comprises “Khem” an ancient word for Egypt, and the divine prefix “Al” or “El” as in the Supreme Creator of the Muslims “Allah,” and the elder gods of the Jewish tradition, the “Elohim.” The differentiation between “a” and “e” being a later linguistic evolution. Alchemy can likewise trace its roots to the Hermetic principles of Egyptian antiquity. Transmutation was originally a spiritual art later concealed as gold making to avoid the wrath of the Church. The Kybalion is an elaboration of the Hermetic principles underpinning transmutation. At under an easy reading 60 pages, its simplicity and length serve as no indicators of the profound wisdom concealed within.  Just as well, for the old patent clerk said it best, “If you can’t explain it to a five year old, you don’t understand it well enough.”

There are seven principles upon which the entire Hermetic philosophy is based. These are:

I. THE PRINCIPLE OF MENTALISM.

II. THE PRINCIPLE OF CORRESPONDENCE.

III. THE PRINCIPLE OF VIBRATION.

IV. THE PRINCIPLE OF POLARITY.

V. THE PRINCIPLE OF RHYTHM.

VI. THE PRINCIPLE OF CAUSE AND EFFECT.

VII. THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER.

I’ll give you a line or two on each to shed a bit of light, but for a thorough understanding of the ideas, this probably won’t suffice. The text delves into much greater detail including how to fuse the principles to exert mastery over mental states and negative emotions.

  1. Mentalism – This primary principle embodies the truth that “All is Mind.” It explains that the ALL (which is the Substantial Reality underlying all the outward manifestations and appearances or “the material universe”) is SPIRIT, which in itself is UNKNOWABLE and UNDEFINABLE, but which may be considered and thought of as an infinite, living mind. It also explains that all the phenomenological world is simply a mental creation subject to the laws of created things, and that the universe, as a whole and in its parts or units, is the mind of The All. This sounds like a holographic model to me.
  2. Correspondence –  This principle expresses the correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life. Man and the cosmos obey common laws for the former is but a microcosm of the latter. There are no fixed limits of division. Or as colloquially popularized, “As above, so below.” Just as man is born, grows old and eventually dies, so do stars, galaxies and the universe itself.
  3. Vibration – Everything is in constant motion. Everything vibrates and nothing is at rest. This principle explains that the differences between different manifestations of matter, energy, mind, and even Spirit, result largely from varying rates of vibration. From corpuscle and electron to worlds and universes, everything is in vibratory motion.
  4. Polarity – Everything is dual as the Universe is a coincidence of opposites. Thesis and antithesis, heat and cold, Yin and Yang. Opposites are identical in nature but different in degree.
  5. Rhythm – This principle embodies the truth that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, a to and fro; a pendulum-like motion also representable as a sine wave with its crests and troughs. The ebb and flow between the poles exists in accordance with the Principle of Polarity.
  6. Cause and Effect – Essentially there is a Cause for every Effect and an Effect from every Cause. It explains that: “Everything happens according to Law”; that nothing ever “merely happens.” There is no such thing as chance and while there are various planes of cause and effect, the higher dominating the lower planes, still nothing ever entirely escapes the Law. This has often been articulated as for every action there exists an equal and opposite reaction or by various traditions as the Law of Karma.
  7. Gender – There is Gender manifested in everything–the masculine and feminine principles ever at work. This is true not only of the physical plane but of the higher dimensions of organization.  The principle manifests as sex in the physical plane, on the higher planes it takes higher forms, but remains ever the same. No creation, physical, mental or spiritual, is possible without this principle.

Unless we’ve been privileged to receive instruction from an adept or master of meditation, our cognition is limited to three dimensions without the use of entheogenic compounds. Thus, any conclusive statements based solely upon our knowledge is rather like the misguided fella who filled a bucket of water from the sea and proclaimed, “There are no whales in the ocean!” However, I hope this text aids on your path to formulating your own conception of the nature of things. And as always- believe nothing amigos, merely entertain ideas.

One love,

HJ

From the authors: “With the aid of The Kybalion one may go through any occult library anew, the old Light from Egypt illuminating many dark pages, and obscure subjects. That is the purpose of this book. We do not come expounding a new philosophy, but rather furnishing the outlines of a great world-old teaching which will make clear the teachings of others–which will serve as a Great Reconciler of differing theories, and opposing doctrines.”

Yanks, if you wish to salvage this experiment in self governance, you must untangle the web of influence peddling. Either get the money out of politics through campaign finance reform or find 536 incorruptible folks. I think the former is less formidable an undertaking.

Ode to Truth

600px-Cat's_Eye_Halo

Bacon (wink wink!) urged us to consider what’s in a name, for a rose by any other name smells just as sweet. In the moments of devotion all religions are the same. Let every aspect of your life be an act of devotion. Look carefully into the eyes of a child, therein a splendor is revealed that has existed long before the spark that set the sun ablaze. Place no value in the fleeting. Worship neither wealth nor fame. The fleeting is fleeting. I am but a story I tell myself. My knowledge is imperfect and I am imperfect. The resplendence of truth is all that exists.

Ode to Truth

There is You, only You

O Framer of Blake’s fearful symmetry

Let me weave your tapestry

For I stand humbled and naked yet mightily infused with your effulgence

I am that i am

For i am but a breath in the sphere of an infinite essence that existed when the world was naught

The Christian sees it in his cross, the Muslim in his Ka’aba, the Jew his Wall, and the physicist in his equations

They are all short-sighted for I see only You

O Peerless One

Your resplendence lies in the rock, your resplendence lies in the rose and in the dove

It is all through Your providence

In every blade of grass a magnificence exists that no cage of words can capture

Utter astonishment for the discerning eye

I surrender to Thy will

For essence eludes elucidation

Humility is my prize

i am triumphant.
