The Undiscovered Country

I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. That is my point of view, and I adhere to that absolutely and unconditionally. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organize a belief. A belief is purely an individual matter, and you cannot and must not organize it. If you do, it becomes dead, crystallized; it becomes a creed, a sect, a religion, to be imposed on others. This is what everyone throughout the world is attempting to do. Truth is narrowed down and made a plaything for those who are weak, for those who are only momentarily discontented. Truth cannot be brought down, rather the individual must make the effort to ascend to it. You cannot bring the mountain-top to the valley. If you would attain to the mountain-top you must pass through the valley, climb the steeps, unafraid of the dangerous precipices. – J. Krishnamurti
Great quote. I would add all institutional learning to that list as well as to say that:
You also cannot bring the valley to the mountain-top, or that any discourse or relationship between places comes from desire and sometimes necessity.
I think belief, in anything, invites us to leave the journey, build a home on the freeway of ideas and imagination rather than furthering the adventure. You never know what lies around the bend.
And therein lies the beauty of the whole experience. I seek no Faustian bargain, perfection in imperfection.
:) So true.
We’ve been so conditioned to view life as a “to do” list and any occurrence not on the list becomes negatively perceived as opposed to being a new adventure. Hey where the road leads, I travel. I wish you good journeys :)
Likewise Henry. I think for myself, I still need reminders that if and when I am choosing, than take aim, or as Joseph Campbell said, Follow your Bliss!
So many voices in the culture try to talk us out of that :(
Be centered …….. it’s all inside out.
Only when centered is that realization possible, else we fall for the ruse
So true ……
There is truth in the idea that truth is a pathless land. But wait, that’s just something the grand old man said, yet did we not approach by his words? Now how can that be. :)
Good question indeed. Maybe all paths cease once we’ve made the approach. From here on out the path is undefined. :)
